This is an old memory I wanted to record on my blog, as a reminder of where my journey began—and where it might go next.
This trip happened before the MCO (Covid lockdown) when I was in my 20s. Back then, I absolutely loved concerts and music festivals. (Fun fact: my first-ever concert was Avril Lavigne, and I was obsessed—even though I barely have any photos. But the memories stay with me forever.)
Today, I’m sharing another special music festival memory—this time in Jakarta with my friends on a Budget is just only less than RM600++. The Festival Ticket is just about RM150+, our flight is Air Asia + KLM on the last min book RM200++ and the hotel for RM80 per person. if I remember correctly for the hotel on 2017 (wow more than 10 years ago).
My first time visit Indonesia, Jakarta
It was my very first time visiting Indonesia, and I was super excited. Honestly, Jakarta didn’t feel that different from Malaysia. But one thing stood out: the traffic! It’s even worse than Kuala Lumpur’s crazy jams. And people drive so wildly that my friend and I kept saying, “This is terrifying!” But somehow, we survived, haha.
During this trip, I also met up with another friend from Indonesia. I don’t know how I always manage to travel and make new friends along the way—it just happens “那么巧” (such a coincidence)! I’m so glad we met. She showed us around, bought so much food for me and my friend, and even covered the costs for visiting a museum. I’m forever thankful for her kindness. Sometimes I wonder why people can be so nice, but I’m grateful they are.
Jakarta surprised me with how cool and fun it was. I loved that we share a common language (Bahasa), though Indonesian and Malaysian Bahasa are a bit different. Still, I could talk with locals well enough, which made the trip even more enjoyable.
Food in Jakarta
Let’s talk about food! We tried lots of local dishes and street food. My friend kept buying different snacks for us to taste. I can’t remember all the names, but I absolutely loved the satay and rojak—they were delicious!
On our first day, we ate fast food in a mall. I remember the waiter asking if we wanted our food spicy. We said “yes,” and OH MY GOD—the food was insanely spicy. Like, 10 out of 10 on the spicy scale! My friend and I were both crying and swearing “never again” to spicy food, haha. My face was as red as a tomato because I just can’t handle that level of heat.
After that meal, we wandered around the mall picking up snacks and drinks. Honestly, the malls in Jakarta weren’t that different from those back home—lots of clothes, shops everywhere, and the same lively vibe.
Music Festival Time
We didn’t explore too many tourist spots because our main reason for the trip was the music festival. We spent three days at the festival, with just one day set aside for sightseeing and meeting friends. My friend also wanted to catch up with her own friend, so we were busy coordinating plans, haha.
This was my first-ever music festival experience. I’d only been to individual concerts before, so a full-on festival felt next level. It was wild—like a smaller version of Tomorrowland! (By the way, if you ever want to go to Tomorrowland, book tickets fast because they sell out quickly and are super expensive.)
I honestly believe that if you’re in your 20s—or just feeling young at heart—you should experience a music festival at least once in your life. It’s unforgettable!
During those three days, we practically stayed out until morning and only went back to the hotel to catch a few hours of sleep. I’m not sure I’d survive doing that in my 30s, haha. “Young and wild”—you have to try it while you can!
I barely slept the entire trip. I remember leaning on my friend’s shoulder to rest a little in between sets. Don’t even get me started on the food stalls and all the brand booths like Heineken, Spotify, and many more. We arrived late on the first day, so we couldn’t get front-row spots—but if you’re lucky, you can get super close to the stage.
Exploring Jakarta Beyond the Festival
I’m lucky my friend come to visit and bring me to the local places. We visit the Market and also the local museum we don’t have much time but we still have the chance to meet and visit the local places. I love the museum and that food she gave me it was such a good memories till now. I don’t take a lot of photos and now I do regret and many I think I have lost before when I change my phone and that time forget to backup and now I just can imagine and wrote again.
Besides the festival, I’m grateful my friend took me around to see some local spots. We visited a market and a museum. We didn’t have much time, but it was still amazing to experience Jakarta beyond the music scene.
I especially loved the museum and the delicious food my friend shared with me—it’s a memory I’ll always treasure. I regret not taking more photos, though. I lost many pictures when I changed my phone and forgot to back everything up. Now, I can only imagine those moments and write them down so I never forget.
