I glad my flight not cancel cause before many flight was cancel so suddenly people say it might be fuel costs also the news of the war. That times I almost check everyday to see if my email have the cancel flight mail? but then nope and nothing just continue this trip until arrival the airport and I saw my airplane so happy! At least this trip still wants me to go haha.

I’m so happy to be back with another travel post, and today I’m sharing my first-hand experience flying with China Southern Airlines from Kuala Lumpur to Guangzhou.
If you’re looking for an honest China Southern Airlines economy class review, especially as a first-time flyer to China, this post will cover everything — including booking, check-in, seat comfort, meals, and overall experience.

✈️ My First Experience with China Southern Airlines (Not a Budget Airline)
Before I start, I want to clarify something important — China Southern Airlines is NOT a budget airline.
It is a full-service airline, which means:
- ✔️ Checked baggage included (23kg)
- ✔️ Cabin baggage included (7kg)
- ✔️ Meals provided onboard
- ✔️ Standard airport check-in service
Even though the ticket price I got was very affordable, the experience itself is still closer to a traditional full-service airline rather than a low-cost carrier.
💰 Ticket Price & Baggage Allowance
I booked my ticket during a promotion period, and here’s what I paid:
- ✈️ Return fare: RM680
- 🧳 Checked baggage: 23kg
- 🎒 Cabin baggage: 7kg
During sales periods, China Southern flights between Kuala Lumpur and China can go quite low, sometimes around RM600+ one way depending on timing.
What makes it good value is that:
👉 baggage + meals are already included
👉 no hidden add-ons like budget airlines
So overall, it’s actually a full-service economy ticket at a competitive price, not a low-cost budget flight.
🛒 Booking Process (Traveloka Experience)
I booked via Traveloka, since other platforms showed higher prices or no availability at that time.
Booking highlights:
- Easy checkout process
- Seat selection available
- Meal selection option included
- Price updated in real time
💡 Tip: Always compare platforms (Traveloka, airline website, Trip) because prices can change quickly.
Always check multiple platforms because prices can vary a lot depending on availability.
🧳 Check-in & Airport Experience (KLIA)
On flight day, I went directly to the airport since online check-in was not available on the app.
Check-in experience:
- ✔️ Smooth counter check-in process
- ✔️ Friendly and efficient staff
- ✔️ Clear baggage allowance explanation
- ✔️ No delays or issues
After check-in, I had time to eat and relax before heading to the gate. Just be prepared for some walking depending on your terminal.

💺 Cabin & Seat Comfort (Economy Class Review)
Aircraft: Boeing 737 MAX 8
Seat experience:
- Clean and modern cabin
- Decent legroom for economy class
- Comfortable for medium-haul flight
- Standard spacing (not extra roomy, but acceptable)
Overall, it feels like a typical full-service economy cabin — practical and comfortable enough for the route. well, nothing luxurious, but definitely not uncomfortable.

🎬 In-Flight Entertainment
This aircraft did not have personal seat screens.
Instead:
- Shared overhead screen for all passengers
- No games or personal entertainment system
💡 Tip:
Bring your own entertainment:
- Kindle or e-books
- Phone or tablet
- Nintendo Switch (perfect for long waiting time)
For me, this was fine since it was a relatively short flight.
🍱 Meals & In-Flight Service (Full-Service Airline Experience)
One of the best parts is that meals are included — not an add-on.
I was served two meals during the flight, and I pre-selected a vegetarian meal.
Meal options:
- 🌱 Vegetarian meal (what I had)
- 🍗 Chicken with rice
- 🐟 Seafood meal
Each meal came with:
- Dessert
- Bread
- Salad
Honestly, I was surprised by the portion size — it was quite filling and much better than expected for economy class. (or maybe I do eat so less for this moments, so is quick more for me I guess).

Service Summary:
- Water was served frequently
- Warm and polite crew
- Quick response to call buttons
🧼 Cleanliness & Cabin Condition
Overall cleanliness was acceptable:
- Cabin interior was clean
- Seat area well-maintained
- Tray tables and surroundings were fine
However, the exterior appearance of the aircraft (seen during boarding) looked slightly weathered — nothing alarming, just not spotless.
Klook.comOverall
Would I recommend China Southern? Yes — if the price is right! Right now, they’ve still have offering great deals — I’ve seen return tickets from Kuala Lumpur to China under RM800-RM900, which is still a good price.
The seat and meal were pretty average, but the overall experience was smooth. If you haven’t tried China Southern yet, I’d say give it a shot at least once.
So, would I recommend China Southern Airlines?
👉 Yes — especially for the value and full-service experience.
It is not a luxury experience, but it is:
- Reliable
- Comfortable enough
- Fully inclusive (baggage + meals)
- Very competitively priced
Pros:
✔️ Full-service airline (not budget)
✔️ Baggage included
✔️ Meals included
✔️ Good value ticket price
